Radiosensitivity of Two Local Chili Varieties to Gamma Rays

Genetic variation is needed for developing new superior varieties in plant breeding. of chili plants could be increased by inducing mutation with gamma rays irradiation. The aim this study was to determine radiosensitivity two local pepper calculating the lethal dose values at LD20 and LD50. Chili (Capsicum frutescens L.) seeds origin from Tulungagung Ponorogo were irradiated cobalt-60 doses of: 0; 100; 200; 300; 400; 500; 600; 700; 800; 900; 1000 Gray (Gy); each as many 50 per radiation. grown small polybags containing 1:1 mixture soil compost. Germination parameters observed 30 days after planting (DAT) 20 (LD20) (LD50). results showed that increasing caused greater damage therefore not able germinate. Local Variety had LD50 147.62 Gy 409.52 Gy; variety 90.3 453.7 Gray. more sensitive than Variety. can used get a lot genetic obtaining positive mutants.
